Start from the correct template

Paint Shop layouts differ by model and model year. Pick the exact variant before placing artwork or importing a photo.

Build the design in layers

Keep major artwork, text, and accents on separate layers so each element can be moved without rebuilding the design. Place large background color or texture first, then add directional graphics and text. Save a local draft and export a project JSON before major revisions so you can return to an editable version instead of starting from a flattened PNG.

Use 3D as a seam check

Rotate the vehicle and inspect panel edges, corners, doors, and bumpers. A flat UV layout can make two distant-looking areas meet on the car, so review the result from both sides and from above. The 3D view is a placement check; the flat UV image remains the file that is exported to Paint Shop.

Export against the Paint Shop limits

Export a square PNG between 512 and 1024 pixels and keep it at or below 1 MB. Use a filename no longer than 30 characters with simple supported characters. The editor exports without its guide overlay, but you should still open the downloaded PNG once to confirm transparency, dimensions, and file size before moving it to the app or USB drive.

Choose mobile upload or USB

The Tesla App provides the shortest workflow when the upload feature is available: open Paint Shop, choose the PNG, review the preview, and send it to the vehicle. USB remains a reliable fallback. Create a root-level Wraps folder on a supported drive, copy the PNG, connect it to the car, and select the wrap in Toybox Paint Shop.

Recheck after every template change

Do not reuse an export for a different model or generation simply because the vehicles look similar. Switch the editor to the new template, reposition the layers, and repeat the 3D check. This is especially important for Model 3 and Model Y generations with different panel mapping.
